TEHRAN, (ST)-Iran’s Assistant Foreign Minister for Middle East and African Affairs Hussein Amir Abdullahian has reiterated the legal right of the Syrian and Yemeni peoples to decide their own destiny.
“The pressure being practiced by some countries to overthrow the legitimate government in Syria in addition to the financial and military support provided by these countries to the terrorist organizations is a dangerous development that enhanced the terrorists’ abilities which became a serious threat to the region and the entire world,” Abdullahian said during his meeting in Tehran with the Swiss Assistant Foreign Minister.
He asserted the need to settle the crises in Syria and Yemen through dialogue among internal parties and hoped that serious regional cooperation will be established as to confront the extremism and terrorism hitting Syria and Iraq.
Abdullahian urged immediate action to end the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Yemen, calling for speeding up the delivary of humanitarian assistance to the Yemeni people, for putting an end to the Saudi aggression on the country and for supporting the political process and national dialogue among the Yemenis.
On his part the Swiss official stressed the necessity of cooperation between Iran and Switzerland on regional and international issues, pointing out that the nuclear deal signed between Iran and the G5+1 will pave the way for bigger Iranian role in the region.
