Abdullahian stresses the necessity of supporting the Syrian government to continue the fight against terrorism

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian stressed the need to support the Syrian government in continuing the war against terrorism.

Amir-Abdollahian said: “The situation in Syria has become complicated due to American interventions, and dozens of terrorist groups are still threatening the security of Syria under the influence of these interventions.”

Amir-Abdollahian affirmed during his meeting with the Special Representative for the United Nations Secretary-General for Syrian Affairs, Geir Pedersen, today in Geneva, that the Islamic Republic of Iran continues to support Pedersen’s mission to help solve the problems in Syria.

Amir Abdullahian described the economic sanctions imposed by the United States on Syria as a measure against the Syrian people and called for efforts by the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations and the Deputy Secretary-General for Humanitarian Aid Affairs at the United Nations to lift the economic sanctions on Syria.

In turn, Pedersen explained his efforts and plans to help resolve the crisis in Syria and expressed his views on the continuation of the political process and the Constitutional Committee.

Pedersen indicated that he is seeking to reduce tensions in Syria and expressed his hope that the current developments in Palestine will not have a negative impact on the situation in Syria.
