Abdullahian: Peace and security are strengthened by the commitment of all countries to the NPT

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian affirmed that strengthening regional and international peace and security can only be achieved by the commitment of all countries of the world to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).

In a speech he delivered at the United Nations Conference on Nuclear Disarmament in Geneva, Abdollahian said, “Concrete and realistic steps must be taken to eliminate weapons of mass destruction, especially nuclear weapons, but unfortunatly, despite all the international efforts made so far, this goal is still far away.

He pointed out that some countries continue to expand and modernize their arsenals of nuclear weapons instead of adhering to their commitments and working to limit the spread of these weapons, which would weaken the treaty and threaten international peace and security.

Abdollahian stressed that the only solution to prevent the use or threat of nuclear weapons is to completely destroy them, calling for the start of negotiations and the signing of a treaty to prevent the deployment of weapons in space, stressing that the world of outer space must remain a world of peace and cooperation for the development and well-being of humanity.

Abdollahian pointed out that the Zionist entity continues to accumulate nuclear arsenals and all kinds of weapons of mass destruction, commit all kinds of international crimes and threaten to attack the peaceful nuclear facilities of independent countries, including Iran, whose facilities are subject to the safeguards and protection of the International Atomic Energy Agency without adhering to any treaty or agreement.

Abdollahian called on the international community and the United Nations to immediately address these practices, place the Zionist entity under legal accountability, prevent it from accumulating and threatening to use weapons of mass destruction and warn it against committing any foolishness against Iran and its peaceful nuclear facilities.
