Abdullahian and Lavrov call for mobilizing international efforts to stop the aggression against Gaza
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian and his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, called for mobilizing international efforts to stop the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip and provide urgent assistance to its residents.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement today:” The two ministers discussed during a phone call yesterday the current situation in the region, where mutual concerns were expressed about the continuing escalation and deterioration of the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.They also spoke about the importance of an immediate ceasefire, to providing urgent assistance to the population as well as mobilizing the authority of the United Nations for these purposes.
The Ministry explained that Lavrov and Abdullahyan touched on current issues of bilateral cooperation, as well as developing the results of the negotiations between the presidents of the two countries, that took place in Moscow on December 7, where they agreed to accelerate work to complete the preparation of a new and expanded agreement between the two countries.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry said: “Abdullahian confirmed during the call, that the American veto in the UN Security Council, is equal to granting a license to continue genocide against the residents of Gaza”.
Abdullahian stressed the need to take action to immediately stop Israeli war crimes, and send more humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.
In another call with his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, the Iranian Foreign Minister warned that the scope of the war in the region would expand, if the Israeli aggression against Gaza did not stop.
For his part, the Chinese Foreign Minister expressed his regret for Washington’s use of the veto, stressing the necessity of a ceasefire in Gaza and sending humanitarian aid immediately.
Wang expressed his hope that the upcoming meeting of the United Nations General Assembly, will be an opportunity to achieve these two goals.
