Abdul Lahyan : Fighting Terrorism and Extremism, Resolving the crisis in Syria, are Iran ‘s political priorities
TEHRAN, PRAGUE,(ST)_ Iran ‘s deputy foreign minister for Arab and African affairs Hussein Amir Abdul Lahyan stressed that the fight against terrorism and extremism and finding a political solution to the crisis in Syria and humanitarian assistance to the Syrian people are priorities of the Iranian politics.
Lahyan indicated during a meeting with Belgian government envoy to Syria, Marc Otte, who is accompanied by the Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Belgian Foreign Minister Didier Renderz, currently on a visit to Iran, food and medical assistance provided by Iran to the Syrian people since the outbreak of the crisis, in coordination with the Syrian government, expressing his country’s readiness to coordinate with Belgium in this regard, as well.
Otte, in turn, stressed the need to find out mechanisms with the Syrian and Iranian Red Crescent societies and the European countries willing to provide humanitarian aid to the Syrian people.
The two sides discussed issues pertinent to terrorism, the existence of European terrorists in Syria and threats arising from such existence on Europe and the world.
However, Belgian intelligence reports said that five thousand militants joined the European terrorists in Syria and Iraq.
Meantime, the International Center for the Study of extremism in Britain revealed in a report that about 18 percent of foreign terrorists in Syria came from Western Europe and the majority of them from France and Britain, warning against the danger of these terrorists on European security in the event of their return to their country of origin.
