Abdollahian: Our military operation against the Zionist entity came within the framework of legitimate self-defense

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir abdollahian and his Malaysian counterpart Mohamad Hasan on Monday afternoon discussed the latest developments in bilateral ties and the situation in the region, over the phone.

Abdollahian extended warm greetings from Iran’s president to the Malaysian prime minister. He stressed that the Zionist regime’s attack on the Iranian Embassy in Damascus was an act of projection by Tel Aviv to disentangle itself from the Gaza war quagmire and to shift attention from the issue.

Abdollahian voiced regret that the UN Security Council did not issue even a statement in condemnation of the Zionist regime due to opposition by the United States, the UK, and France.

He said, therefore, the Islamic Republic of Iran decided to punish the Zionist regime with a calculated action that was done in a specific operation and in line with the principle of legitimate defense against two military bases in occupied Palestine, from which the terrorist attack on the Iranian embassy in Damascus had been carried out.

Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan for his part expressed concern over the trend of developments in the region and condemned the Zionist regime’s attack on the consular section of the Iranian embassy.

Hasan also offered condolences to the loved ones of those martyred in the attack.

The Malaysian foreign minister said any attack on another country’s diplomatic mission is a gross violation of international law.

Hasan said Malaysia understands the Islamic Republic of Iran’s retaliation to the attack on its consulate in Damascus based on Article 51 of the UN Charter, urging all sides to take utmost care to keep the current situation from getting further complicated.

He also said Malaysia condemns the ruthless attacks against the Palestinian people.

Both sides stressed the necessity of pursuing efforts to further strengthen ties between Tehran and Kuala Lumpur in different economic, educational, scientific and technological fields as well as food security and other spheres.
