A Year of Russian Operation against Terrorism in Syria

On the occasion of the passage of a year of the Russian military operation against terrorist groups in Syria, different Syrian opposition figures welcomed and praised the Russian supporting in fighting terrorism.

Randa al-Oujili, a member in the Syrian Social Nationalist Party, led by Joseph Sweid, expressed its party welcoming of the Russian air force in fighting terrorism over the Syrian land.

“Russia is a very strong ally to the Syrian government and people. The Russian military operation came upon a request by the Syrian government, making it a legitimate contribution according to the international law. Russia,the glory of the SovietUnion, supports the Syrian right and fight against terrorism.” Oujili said to Syria Times

“Syria has the right to ask help and support from its allies and Russia is a very strategic ally to Syria for decades. Russia believes that its military operations in Syria is defending the Russian national security from these terrorist groups,” she added.

Dr. Jamal Abdo, a leader from the People Well Party, led by Qadri Jamel, expressed his party’s position from the Russian support for the Syrian government.

“During the first year of the Russian military operations and airstrikes against terrorism in Syria, the Syrian army could move forward and its position became stronger. Daesh and other terrorist groups became weaker and lost more lands,” Abdo said.

“Russia came to Syria to fight terrorism and activate the political process to put an end of the crisis in Syrian. Russia and Syria believe in the political solutions but the United States and its allies like Turkey and Saudi Arabia believe in using military and terrorist options. Saudi Arabia and Turkey foiled the Russian-American truce deal, which was approved by the Syrian government. The terrorist groups refused to put down their gunmen from the Kastelo way and also the US airstrikes on the Syrian Arab Army’s positon in Deir Ezzour foiled the truce deal. Russia and the Syrian government are still working hard to succeeded in reaching a political solution of the crisis in Syria,” he said to the Syria Times.

Mazen Bilal, the leader of the opposition Syrian Secular Democratic Movement said that Russia plays a key role in the international arena to keep the sovereignty and independence of states.

“Russia supports the Syrian legitimate government and protects the Syrian State and its institutions. Russia came to Syria with a request from the legitimate government not as the other states, which interfere in Syria and support the terrorists. Russia is serious in combating terrorism and we see the result on the field,” Bilal said.

“After a year of the Russian airstrikes against Daesh and Anusra Front, we see these terrorist groups lose areas and stopped spreading to other new areas. the Syria Arab Army retakes the initiative to wage new offensive with the help of the Russian Air Forces,” Bilal cleared.
