A UN Commission of Inquiry calls for an end to the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories

New York (ST): The new independent international commission of inquiry of the United Nations on the occupied Palestinian territories stressed the need to end the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories and stop the practices of racial discrimination against the Palestinians.

In a report published today and reported by the United Nations News Center, the committee enumerated some of the violations of international law and United Nations resolutions practiced by the Israeli occupation entity against the Palestinians, including the forced displacement of Palestinians from their lands and homes, threats of it, house demolitions, settlement construction and expansion, and violence perpetrated by Israeli settlers against Palestinians protecting the occupation forces, in addition to imposing a strict siege on the Gaza Strip, denouncing the international community’s failure to hold the occupation forces and its settlers accountable for their continued violations of international laws.

The Commission of Inquiry issued its report after conducting an evaluation of the recommendations made by commissions of inquiry, previous fact-finding missions and other UN mechanisms, as well as private hearings.

The committee’s report focused on the Israeli occupation entity’s lack of respect for international laws and norms, its violations and abuses of individual and collective rights, and the lack of accountability.
