A training workshop on photography for deaf students

With the aim of empowering people with disabilities and supporting their creative skills, the “We Want to Rejoice” civil association in Damascus has recently launched a training workshop on photography skills to highlight the concept of peace.

The ten-day workshop, which is currently ongoing, targets the deaf category to teach them the principles and basics of photography to strengthen their self-confidence and enhance their effective role in their communities.

The Association’s Public Relations Manager Dana Hammoudeh told SANA correspondent that during the ten-day training course, 25 deaf students are to be trained on photography skills with the help of a number of sign language experts who serve as a link between the teacher and the students aiming at extracting their ideas and producing photos that focus entirely on the concept of peace.

She pointed out that the Association’s main objective is to support the deaf students’ individual and creative abilities, especially since many of them proved excellence in many domains.

Jawdat al-Tabbaa, an experts of sign language , who has been working with deaf children and youths for many years, underscored that the deaf category has a special passion for artworks and have ambitions but they are in need for care and development.

On their part, a number of participants stressed that attending this workshop is a challenge to their disabilities and a space to highlight their talents and participate in spreading the concept of peace.

An exhibition is due to be held at the conclusion of the workshop to display the deaf students’ art works.
