Prime Minister Hussein Arnous on Monday inaugurated Harasta National Hospital in Damascus Countryside with a total cost of SYP 30 billion and with a capacity of 90 beds after it was rehabilitated due to the damage caused by terrorism.
The rehabilitation of the hospital was achieved in cooperation with international organizations and the local community.
The prime minister toured the sections of the hospital where he was briefed on the services they provide.
He hailed the great efforts exerted to put the hospital into service again and secure the equipment necessary to provide medical services to all citizens in this area.
In a statement to reporters, Arnous stressed that the government will spare no effort as to secure oil derivatives for the main sectors, including the hospitals and bakeries, transportation, agriculture and other vital sectors despite the difficult circumstances in the country.
For his part, Minister of Health Hasan Al-Ghabbash said that reopenjng the hospital is an added value to the health system in Damascus countryside, as it provides services to 1.5 million citizens in the areas of Eastern Ghouta.
He pointed out that the hospital was supplied with modern and developed equipment.
The minister explained that in 2012, the hospital was exposed to vandalism by terrorists who stole all the equipments and destroyed the structural, mechanical and electrical infrastructure of this hospital. However, he added, in 2019, Japan presented a grant for restoring the hospital and securing medical equipment through the World Health Organization and the United Nations Development Program. The move was greatly supported by the Health Directorate of Damascus Countryside and the local community.
