A terrorist plot by ISIS thwarted in the Russian North Caucasus

Moscow (ST): The Russian Federal Security Service announced today the thwarting of a terrorist plot by ISIS in the Stavropol region of the North Caucasus.

The authority said in a statement reported by TASS: A person was arrested who planned to carry out a terrorist attack on facilities belonging to the transport infrastructure in the region using an improvised explosive device.

It pointed out that, during a search of the detainee’s residence, the security forces confiscated explosive materials and shrapnel intended for the manufacture of an explosive device.

A criminal case was filed against the detainee on charges of planning a terrorist attack and manufacturing explosive devices, and investigations into the case are still ongoing.

Last September, the Russian Federal Security Service thwarted a terrorist attack in the Republic of Bashkiria and arrested 5 people.
