On December 19th, the Syrian-Russian Friendship Committee in the People’s Assembly met with the head of the Russian-Syrian friendship group in the Russian State Duma, Dmitry Sablin, and his accompanying delegation.
The two sides discussed ways to enhance relations between the two friendly countries at the parliamentary level.
The head of the Syrian-Russian Friendship Committee Basim Soudan stressed the depth of relations between the two countries and the need to continue serious work and exert efforts at all levels to imporve them in all fields for the benefit of the Syrian and Russian peoples.
Soudan pointed to the positions of the Russian Federation and its support for Syria and its people in the fight against terrorism.
For his part, Sablin pointed to the importance of intensifying meetings and visits between the two countries at the parliamentary level to achieve the maximum levels of cooperation.
Sablin expressed his hope for Syria’s participation as an observer in the work of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization.
Sablin said that Syria’s participation in the Assembly’s work will constitute an added value whose results are in the interest of both countries in the fight against terrorism.
Sablin revealed that work is underway to coordinate cooperation mechanisms between Russian regions and Syrian governorates to provide support in the economic, social, humanitarian and educational fields.
