A Syrian Play Script among Eurodram’s Selection of Plays Recommended for Translation into Several Languages
“Al-khawf” (Fear) play script for the Syrian writer and scenarist Samer Mohamed Ismail won the prize of the European Network for Drama in translation Eurodram 2020 . The Syrian play script is the original text of “ Tashih Alwan” (color correction )
Earlier, The European Network for Drama in translation had announced its 2020 selection of plays recommended for translation into several languages . These have been chosen by 290 members of 29 language committees, out of the 841 original plays received in 2019.
The scenarist Ismail said In a statement to SANA “Obtaining the European Network for Drama prize is an honor to the Syrian imagination, which I believe is finding itself again after many years, ”
He underlined the importance of writing fresh and current play scripts which are able to engage with reality away from the influence of imported play scripts.
Ismail stressed Eurodram 2020 prize is an opportunity for Syrian play scripts to be translated into foreign languages to enable foreign artists to read and discuss these plays.
Ismail expressed his hope for the emergence of a new written section which is capable of addressing wide categories of the public in various theaters of the world that are currently affected and closed by the epidemic of the Corona virus.
It is noteworthy to mention that the International Eurodram 2020 prize is the second one for the play script “ Al-Khawf” (Fear) after it had won the prize of the best play script in Carthage Theater Festival 2018..
