The Syrian engineer Amjad Jaafar has developed a beehive that can resist weather conditions and save the costs of heating. Besides, the beehive is strong, easy to use and it can be valid for a long time that may exceed 100 years.
Jaafar told SANA, that the beehive is thermally insulated by three layers of plywood, foam and fiberglass so that it can resist weather conditions.
He explained that the beehive is equipped with a movable base for several uses. The base has a ventilation hole to get rid of moisture, feed the beehive and maintain suitable temperature. The beehive is also equipped with additional bases that play a role in combating the diseases that may hit the beehive, in producing pollen and in producing and extraction of propolis.
The developed beehive cost 650,000 Syrian pounds (SYP) and it is valid for tens of years, while an ordinary beehive costs about 200,000 Syrian pounds and needs to be replaced every 5 years, according to Jaafar.
Eng. Jaafar’s invention has obtained a patent from the Ministry of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection and it won the second prize as the best Arab invention in the field of bee breeding in 2019.
