Damascus, (ST) – The Syrian Doctor Dima Adwan a member of teaching staff at the Faculty of Medicine of Damascus University managed to create advanced designs for four devices that benefit gynecologists and obstetricians. This achievement helps doctors in diagnosis and surgical operations.
In a statement to SANA, Dr. Adwan, who is the medical director of the University Obstetrics Hospital in Damascus, said that she made innovative additions that resulted in the invention of four devices needed by obstetrics and gynecology specialists in their clinics or hospitals.
The first is a device called (cervical swab with brush), to conduct a smear for early detection of cervical cancer Accurately at points that cannot be reached by conventional examination. The second is a (sharp and blunt shovel sucking the endometrium). She indicated that it was designed in a hollow shape to enable accurate shoveling of the uterus, and it works in a way that keeps the uterus sterile.
A bout the third invention, Dr. Adwan explained that it is a (sterile sample container). She pointed out that she had modified the traditional container by connecting it with a sputum and fluid suction device, where we can use multiple measurements on the same device. The fourth invention is (a longitudinally expandable speculum device) with a modified cervical clamp). She pointed out that the device eliminates the doctor’s need to use multiple measurements of the device that helps the process of examining the cervix, and she also modified the cervical clamp in a way that facilitates examination and diagnosis.
Dr. Adwan, who obtained a patent from the Directorate of Intellectual Property Protection at the Ministry of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection for the four designs in 2020, pointed out that innovation is finding a new idea that achieves value, and addresses some of the problems facing the specialist. She stressed the role of doctors through their experience in helping Medical engineering specialists to make these inventions industrially applicable and print it through a 3D printer, and other steps that make the invention accomplished on the ground.
It is noteworthy that Dr. Dima Adwan is one of the honored inventors in the (Invention and Development) workshop held by the University of Damascus on the 11th of this month. She also won the gold medal during her participation in an international medical exhibition in Hungary last year for two of the four devices she designed.
