Every year International Yoga Day is celebrated on June 21 worldwide. It serves as a platform to raise awareness about the numerous benefits of this sport.
People from all over the world are excited to celebrate International Yoga Day as this day is devoted to practicing ‘Yoga’ which is an ancient tradition of asanas. The regular practice of yoga results in the well-being of an individual’s physical, spiritual, emotional, and mental health.
The Indian Embassy in Damascus, in cooperation with the Sports for All Federation, organized an event to practice yoga at Al-Assad Sports City in Lattakia, on the occasion of the International Day of Yoga.
The event, which witnessed wide participation, included various exercises of this sport, in addition to sports dances performed by a number of children from various yoga centers.
The Chargé d’Affaires of the Indian Embassy in Damascus, Vijay Pandey, pointed in a statement to SANA to the importance of yoga in the world as an important sport that has many health benefits, especially in relieving pressure, tension and anxiety, noting the great interest of this sport in Syria, which indicates Syrians’ awareness about yoga which made them adopt it as a way of life.
In her turn, Head of the Sports for All Federation, Thanaa Muhammad, indicated that the Syrians’ interest in yoga in various age categories aims to devote many correct sports rules that help people to give and deal positively and calmly in all life situations.
Head of the Supreme Committee of Yoga, Mazen Issa, explained that yoga is practiced in 57 centers in Syria, under the supervision of specialized trainers, stressing the goal of all these centers is the same, which is to reach spiritual peace and reconciliation with oneself, according to specific exercises.
