A solidarity stand in front of the ICRC headquarters in Damascus to demand the release of the Palestinian prisoner Walid Daqqa

The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and the Committees for the Defense of Palestinian Prisoners and Detainees inside the Israeli occupation detention centers held a stand in solidarity with Palestinian prisoners in front of the headquarters of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Damascus.

The participants demanded the release of the Palestinian prisoner Walid Daqqa and other prisoners who suffer from serious diseases in the occupation detention centers.

In a statement delivered to the ICRC mission, the participants called for intervention and pressure using all the legal and political ways to release the prisoner Walid Daqqa, who is subjected to medical neglect, and to organize periodic visits to dozens of other sick prisoners, especially those suffering from serious diseases such as cancer.

The participants stressed the need to present information about the occupation’s crimes against the Palestinian prisoners to the Criminal court to put pressure on the occupiers, and release the prisoners so that they can complete their treatment in a healthy environment away from detention centers.

The participants pointed out that the 61-year-old prisoner, Daqqa, suffers from a dangerous disease, which is spinal cord cancer, which was diagnosed last December.

The participants emphasized that time for a sick prisoner means life or death, referring to what happened with the prisoner Khader Adnan, who was martyred as a result of a hunger strike he implemented because of his unfair detention.

The participants expressed their hope for a positive move commensurate with the size of the responsibilities and capabilities of the mission to rescue Palestinian prisoners whose lives and rights are guaranteed by international law.

After receiving the statement, the deputy head of the mission in Syria Beata Skwarska explained that the committee is doing everything possible to ensure that the required and appropriate treatment reaches the sick prisoners.

Skwarska said that she will take into account the points mentioned in the statement, and it will be shared with those concerned.
