A sit-in in front of the UN headquarters in Beirut demanding an end of the siege on Syria

Beirut (ST): A stand-in solidarity with Syria was held in front of the United Nations headquarters in Beirut against the unfair American and European coercive economic measures imposed on the Syrian people, in which political, religious, social, academic, artistic, student and media figures participated.

The Archbishop of Beirut for the Syriac Orthodox, Daniel Koriah read  a petition signed by thousands of personalities, in which they demanded to immediately end all forms of siege on Syria and Lebanon.

The petition was directed to the Pope of the Vatican, Pope Francis, the UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, and the President of the European Union Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.

The signatories of the petition affirmed that the Syrian people who fought terrorism on behalf of all of humanity deserve thanks and praise instead of the unfair sanctions and coercive measures, whose effects are not limited to them only, but they affect the daily life of citizens in a number of countries in the region, especially Lebanon, which suffers the repercussions of the Caesar Act due to the nature of relations between the two brotherly countries which are intertwined with geography and history.

The signatories of the petition noted that the siege imposed on the Syrian people and in extension to the Lebanese has rarely been witnessed by humanity in its brutality and comprehensiveness of various aspects of life and health in light of the spread of the Corona pandemic.
