A memorandum of cooperation between the Watan Document Foundation and the Omani National Documents and Archives Authority

On May 6th, the Watan Document Foundation and the National Documents and Archives Authority in the Sultanate of Oman signed a memorandum of cooperation, with the aim of strengthening, confirming and developing cooperation and consolidating the bonds of Arab brotherhood between Syria and the Sultanate, in the presence of the Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Louay Imad Al-Din Al-Munajjid.

The memorandum stipulated the exchange of experts in the fields of historical documentation, document management, and cooperation in the field of oral history, in a way that serves the interests of the peoples of the two countries.

Dr.Buthaina Shaaban, Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Watan Document Foundation, stressed the importance of cooperation with the Sultanate, as well as with the rest of the Arab countries, to advance the file of documentation, supervision and preservation of handicrafts and Syrian documents and history.

Dr. Shaaban pointed out that the National Documents and Archives Authority in the Sultanate of Omanis a pioneer in the field of preserving documents in the Arab world and in preserving the memory of the nation in all its aspects, including the departments of the state, the public and private sectors.

Dr. Shaaban expressed her hope for cooperation in the fields of scientific research and creativity, and for Syria and Oman to be a basic nucleus for Arab cooperation in this field.

For his part, Minister Al-Munajjid referred to attempts to remove heritage, history, customs and values through well-studied plans, aimed at targeting the existence of peoples before targeting countries.

He considered that the Watan Document Foundation is filling the gap of preserving heritage and tangible and immaterial history in Syria and it is one of the joints of steadfastness and moving forward.

He expressed the readiness of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor to provide all necessary logistical, moral, technical and material support to the Foundation and its project.

In turn, the Chairman of the Omani Authority, Hamad bin Muhammad Al-Duwayani, explained that this memorandum is for preparing a program for exchanging experiences and cooperation in the field of documents, archives, oral history, research and various studies, which are among the areas on which the Omani National Documents and Archives Authority is based within its competence and fields of work.

Al-Duwayani said: “We are looking forward to more cooperation, and this memorandum is the way that leads us to many meetings and studies.”

He wished for Syria  progress and prosperity and to come out strong,to advance its aspirations, and achieve its hopes under the auspices and wise leadership of President Bashar al-Assad.
