A meeting between Lavrov and Pedersen in Moscow to discuss the situation in Syria, says Russian Foreign Ministry
Moscow, (ST) – Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Vladimirovna Zakharova announced that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will meet in Moscow tomorrow, the special envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Syria, Geir O. Pedersen, to discuss the situation in Syria.
Zakharova confirmed in a press statement today that,”this meeting falls within the frameworks of Minister Lavrov’s agenda for tomorrow.”
The Russian Foreign Ministry announced in a statement today that the Special Envoy of the Russian President to Syria Alexander Lavrentiev and Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin discussed yesterday within a joint Russian delegation with a joint Turkish delegation headed by the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Turkish regime, Sedat Onal, the situation in Syria “with a focus on tasks securing stability on the ground and pushing the political process forward.
A Foreign Ministry statement published on its website said that “views were exchanged on the current situation in Idlib and the subsequent steps within the frameworks for implementing the Russian-Turkish agreements”. The statement stressed that the two sides reiterated that there is no alternative to the political process led by the Syrians themselves in light of the UN support as it was stipulated by the UN Security Council’s Resolution No. 2254.
