A Lebanese citizen involved in smuggling illegal migrants by sea arrested: Lebanese army

The Lebanese army has announced that the intelligence directorate has arrested a suspect involved in smuggling illegal migrants by sea.

Investigations proved that the suspect is involved in managing a network for smuggling illegal migrants by sea starting from the Lebanese shores, the army said in a statement on Saturday.

The arrested person confessed to preparing for the latest smuggling operation from Lebanon to Italy which started on September 21, 2022 and resulted in the sinking of the boat off the Syrian coast on September 22, 2022, the army added, pointing out that investigations will continue until members of the entire smuggling network are arrested.
