The Arab Cultural Center in Abu Rummaneh in Damascus held an exhibition entitled “The Duality of Love and Joy” for the artist Issa Al-Issa and the talented trainee child Rima Shalhoub .
The exhibition displayed 30 paintings depicting nature by the 8-year-old child girl Rima, and 70 black and white graphic paintings, depicting various symbols inspired by the Syrian rural heritage.
Artist Issa Al-Issa told Syria Times that the exhibition is an important joint experience that brings together a talented childe and her teacher, pointing out that he used various techniques in his graphic art works that reflect the wood engraving,” he added.
“Symbols, such as birds in my paintings, are inspired by the embroidery works on textile and the printing that was used by our grandmothers in the Syrian countryside,” he said, adding that “these printing and embroidery works, that were inspired by myths, are in danger of becoming extinct, so I have tried, through my drawings, to revive this kind of art in our rich cultural heritage”.
“Holding this joint exhibition with my painting student aims at encouraging the child Rima to go on drawing and to show her creative works and at urging other talented children to introduce their art works,” Al-Issa went on to say.
He affirmed the importance of presenting a joint distinguished experience between a creative child and her teacher, which will push her forward and encourage her to do the best.
