A heritage exhibition in Suwayda in honor of fighter Saleh al-Qadamani

Various heritage collections including food and agricultural tools, handicrafts with straw and cloth, embroideries , costumes, ancient folk cuisine, various handicrafts and medical plants are  being exhibited at the heritage exhibition, organized by the Al-Adiyat Association, As-Suwayda, today in honor of the Mujahid in the great Syrian revolution Saleh al-Qadamani.

24 people interested in heritage and handicrafts are  participating  in the three-day exhibition hosted within Sheikh Saleh Trabeh’s heritage house in Suwayda city. The opening ceremony included folk heritage performances by the Al-Adiyat Troupe for Folklore, poetry evening, and honoring the Mujahid Saleh al-Qadamani’s family and the exhibition’s participants.

The head of the Al-Adiyat Association branch in Sweida, Muhammad Trabeh, stated that the exhibition is one of the concerns of the Association’s Heritage Committee to revive heritage as a living memory that tells and disseminates peoples’ history, especially as interest in it increases and accelerates to preserve cultural diversity and confront globalization.

Mujahid Salih al- Qadamani’s grandson, Abdullah Al- Qadamani, stated   that his grandfather, along with his fellow mujahideen, believed in the importance of sacrificing their souls for the country’s independence, indicating how he sold a piece of his land to buy a gun and ammunition to take part in the battles of the great Syrian revolution from the Tall al-Hadid , to the battle of Mazra’a, where he was hit by four shots in the left jaw, shoulder and leg, as he bandaged his wounds with his keffiyeh, jumped on top of a small French tank and killed its leader and threw it off the foot of the slope. He returned after the French fled to his work as a farmer.

In a statement to SANA, participant Jenan Kamaluddin indicated that she presented a large canvas entitled “Oaks”, which tells of Syria’s local heritage, as well as 20 other canvases that emulate customs and traditions, including those related to old household food works.

Faiza Faisal stated that she tried to express the local heritage and revive the old in a modern way, through her products including pitchers, jars and coffee pots using natural straw.

It is worth mentioning that the As-Suwayda branch of the Al-Adiyat Association was established in 2001. Its main objectives are to take care of ancient monuments in cooperation with the Department of Antiquities and the Directorate of Tourism to encourage domestic tourism, to pay attention to the popular heritage in As-Suwayda to preserve it for future generations, and to spread archaeological and environmental awareness.
