A government delegation visits Maarat al-Numantown, in Idlib

Yesterday, a government delegation of the ministers of local administration, environment, public works, housing, health, electricity and education visited the town of Maarat al-Numan in the governorate of Idlib.

The delegation was briefed on the current situation and rebuilding process in the town, in parallel with the return of the people.

The delegation visited the National Hospital, the Cultural Center, the tomb of the poet and philosopher Abu Al-Ala Al-Maarri, and a number of schools and public facilities in the town.

The Minister of Local Administration, Hussein Makhlouf, explained in a press statement that the tour comes after President Bashar al-Assad asked the people of Maarat al-Numan to return to their city.

He added: “We, as a ministerial committee, are here to review the current situation and to identify priorities and the most urgent needs that help in the return of the people to their hometown.”

The Minister of Electricity, Engineer Ghassan Al-Zamil, confirmed that work has begun to restore the electricity service to the town, by installing the electricity cables, and connecting them from the Khan Sheikhountown to Maarat al-Numan with a 28-kilometre cable.

In turn, the Minister of Education, Dr. Darem Tabbaa, stressed during a tour of the Zat Al-NitaqeenSchool in the town to check the educational process, and the need to expand the rebuilding of schools.

For his part, the Governor of Idlib, Thaer Salhab, presented to the members of the ministerial delegation a memorandum of the most important needs of the town in its various sectors.

The delegation met with the directors of the governmental departments, who gave a presentation on the damages of their departments and plans to rebuild them.
