German newspaper Die Zeit revealed on Sunday that the German authorities are tracking a network that is running a campaign for financing the terrorist organization Al Qaeda in Syria.
The newspaper said that an investigation unveiled “the presence of a network including 60 German extremists who are currently in Idlib governorate in northern Syria and running a campaign to fund and support the terrorist organization al-Qaeda”, noting that these extremists are using the Telegram application to promote the so-called “jihad in Syria”
According to the investigation, “network members send videos and voice messages to Germany to collect money to be sent to a person in Istanbul or London via cryptocurrency”.
Commenting on this investigation the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution in Germany said, “It is aware of the online actors, who are close to the terrorist organization Al Qaeda and provide financial support and is trying to recruit people to fight alongside Al Qaeda in Syria.”
The western countries are witnessing a state of security alert for fear of the return of terrorism, which some of these countries have supported and ignored its crimes in Syria, to their lands, especially after the repeated attacks carried out in some of these countries.
