A demonstration in Prague protesting the country’s signing of a military treaty with the US

Prague (ST) – The Czech capital, Prague, witnessed a demonstration in which dozens of citizens participated, in protest against the signing of their county’s government on a military treaty to deploy US forces and bases on the country’s territory.

The protestors who gathered in Mala Strana Square, near the headquarters of the Czech Parliament and the US Embassy in Prague, at the invitation of the Moravian Czech Communist Party, expressed their rejection of any US military presence in Czechia, and their opposition to this treaty.

This protest event is the second to be held in Prague this month, in rejection of the treaty, which many Czech circles see as limiting their country’s sovereignty and increasing its dependence on the United States.

The former Czech Foreign Minister Tserel Svoboda affirmed that the treaty was not well prepared and that it contains many ambiguous matters, stressing that the text of this treaty gives scope widely for the US military to escape from the Czech law system, which means that if the US deployed its forces in the country, it will not be possible to prosecute them criminally.
