A demonstration in Prague against the agreement to deploy US forces on Czech territories

Prague (ST): A number of Czech citizens held a demonstration in front of the US Embassy in Prague to protest against the signing of a military treaty by their country’s government, which paves the way for the deployment of US forces or the establishment of US military bases in the country.

The participants in the demonstration expressed their rejection of this treaty, while spokesmen for the demonstrators from the leaders of the Moravian Czech Communist Party and the Czech Peace Movement confirmed that this treaty represents a threat to the sovereignty and independence of the Czech Republic, stressing their opposition to any US military presence on Czech soil.

For his part, former Czech Prime Minister Jiří Paroubek described, in an interview with the Parliamentary Papers website, the treaty as “an agreement that brings shame to the Czech Republic,” pointing to the danger of placing US bases in the Czech Republic, because such a matter would increase tension in Central Europe.
