A charity bazaar opened in “Four Seasons Hotel” in Damascus with the support of UNFPA

With the aim of promoting their products, women from 20 civil societies have participated in a two-day bazaar in “Four Seasons Hotel” in Damascus.

The activity was held with the support of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and it showed handicraft works, including crochet, embroidery, accessories, and the manufacture of sweets.

The works were made by women who benefited from training courses held by international organizations in Syria.

One of the participants in the event,  Rabaa al-Aboud, said to Syriatimes: “The bazaar is a real opportunity for women to show their hand-made products. It also encourages them to improve their living conditions.”

The improvement of living condition could be achieved by participating in training courses, according to Hanan al-Sheikh, who said that the training courses help women be active in society.

“Holding such events aim to encourage women to sell their handicrafts and gain experience and knowledge” She added.

Sawsan al-Habaj, one of the members of the ‎UNFPA in Syria referred to the importance of empowering women to depend on themselves economically and opening opportunities for them to work and to be active in society.

“Facilitating Women’s entry into the labor market is one of the services being offered by the fund besides reproductive health services and psychological support”, al-Habaj added.

A number of visitors expressed their admiration of the exhibits, and they considered that the purchase from charity bazaars contributes to the support and encouragement of women.
