A central celebration at Tishreen University in celebration of the 72nd anniversary of Syrian Arab Student Day
To celebrate the 72nd anniversary of the Syrian Arab Student Day, the Executive Office of the National Union of Syrian Students held a large central celebration on Wednesday at Tishreen University in Lattakia. The Union’s branches in universities and institutes, and Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Bassam Ibrahim, and Minister of Education, Dr. Darem Tabbaa took part in the celebration.
Minister Ibrahim stressed in his speech that the celebration of Student Day comes in light of the Syrian steadfastness in the face of the unjust economic siege, where Syrian students proved their worth and their great role in standing side by side with the Syrian Arab Army in the fight against terrorism. He pointed out that the Ministry of Higher Education aspires to make a qualitative step in the quality of higher education to contribute to building a strong modern state based on scientific competencies.
Head of the National Union of Syrian Students, Dareen Suleiman, spoke about the students’ role in confronting aggression and raising the national flag.
She added that President Bashar al-Assad paid attention to the student sector through a number of specific decrees, laws and directives, which had the greatest effect on student life in its various circumstances and difficulties and which contributed to alleviating suffering and reducing the impact of pressures and also helped to follow up educational attainment in many fields. The message of the National Union focuses mainly on the student himself, embodying his concerns and aspirations, strengthening his ambition and national belonging, working to implant citizenship and linking it with society and keeping pace with the developments of the times in all sectors.
The celebration included a series of cultural, artistic and sports activities, which included a cycling marathon that started from Joul Jammal Square in the center of Lattakia city to the Agriculture Roundabout, and a sports marathon for running that started from the Agriculture Roundabout to Tishreen University. It’s also followed by honoring the winning students in the first places, in addition to the opening of a book fair and an exhibition of plastic arts and handicrafts in the central library of the university.
The event concluded with a concert by Al-Ajjan Band, which performed a number of patriotic songs to celebrate this occasion.
In interviews with a SANA reporter, Eng. Omar Al-Jabai, member of the Executive Office of the Union and Head of the Culture and Information Office, confirmed that the National Union is holding this event as an honor and loyalty to the organization’s founding day and to send a message from Syrian students about the importance of continuing the path of science and knowledge, as the students were able to persevere in the science benches and presented honorable models to be followed out.
Syrian students celebrate their day on the 30th of March of each year to commemorate the convening of the first founding conference for Syrian students in 1950 in Lattakia.
