A celebration to shed light on talents of children with special needs in Al-Suwayda

As a culmination of the “My Will is My Strength” project for the year 2022 with children with special needs, the Palace of Culture in the city of Al-Suwayda hosted on Wednesday a celebration entitled (Childhood and Creativity), which was held by the Child Culture Directorate at the Ministry of Culture.

The celebration included an exhibition of artwork and handicrafts made by people with special needs. It also included songs by the Choir of Joy in the Life Skills Team of the Directorate of Culture in AL-Suwayda. In addition to two theatrical scenes prepared and supervised by director Nawras Al-Mulhim, one of which was performed by children of the Institute of Special Education for the hearing impaired, while Children of Joy Club for Love Down Syndrome, simulated their aspirations and hopes for the future in the other scene. The two blind youths, Anas and Wissam Al-Hadi, performed musical pieces.

The celebration concluded with honoring eight winners of the annual drawing competition for the year 2022 and the competition for children with special needs 2022, organized by the Directorate of Child Culture at the Ministry of Culture.

Susana Al-Hinnawi and Farid Al-Salam received two encouragement awards. The first prize for drawing at the Syrian level was won by the child Ethar Nasr. Yarub Abu Khair, Shadi Ezz El-Din, Agheed Abu Hala, Karam Hatoum, and Diana Al-Kuntar received encouragement awards.

Head of Al-Suwayda Culture Directorate, Laila Abu Fakhr, noted in a statement to SANA reporter that the celebration is held within the framework of an annual event, within the Ministry of Culture’s programs and interest in discovering and nurturing children’s literary, artistic and creative talents and building their thoughts and personality.

Official of the Child Culture Department and the Life Skills Project at the Directorate of Culture, Diala Al-Melhem, pointed out that all the activities of the celebration were the result of the workshops and training of the life skills team, in cooperation with the Directorate of Social Affairs and Labor, the Institute of Special Education for Hearing Impairment, Basmat Amal Center and the Joy Club for Love Down Syndrome.
