A celebration of the 77th Anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence by the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Damascus
The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Damascus organized a reception on the occasion of the 77th anniversary of proclamation of the independence of the Republic of Indonesia , at Dama Rose Hotel in Damascus.
The ceremony was attended by Ministers, members of the People’s Assembly, Ambassadors, representatives of diplomatic embassies and others. As a way of welcoming these guests a number of Indonesian traditional dances performances.
H.E Mr. Wajid Fauzi said in his speech: “Indonesia’s independence is the result of the long struggle and sacrifice of the founding fathers and heroes of Indonesia who wrested independence from colonization on the 17th of August 1945”.
“ During the upholding of independence we haven’t forgotten the role of Syria in the early years of independence and until today. We are not only celebrating 77 of the independence , but we are also celebrating 75 years of the Indonesian Syrian Diplomatic relations. For Indonesia, Syria is a friendly country and the relationship between both countries are historical and deep rooted, and we always aim to enhance it through the bilateral and multilateral cooperation between the two brotherly countries” H.E Mr. Wajid Fauzi added.
“ The friendship relations between Indonesia and Syria form a strong foundation to enhance and develop concrete cooperation between both countries and in many fields”.
In this regard, the Indonesian Embassy is always ready to develop cooperation hand in hand and shoulder to shoulder with the Syrian government and people. Why? To substantiate the friendship between Indonesia and Syria through cooperation in many sectors, such as economy, culture, social, education and tourism” Mr. Wajid Fauzi said.
H.E Mr. Wajid Fauzi invited businessmen and interested people to visit the Trade Expo Indonesia, which will be held in Jakarta on the 19th of October 2022.
The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Bashar al-Jaafari, reiterated the depth of the friendly relations that unite the two countries, which cannot be measured in terms of modern and contemporary dimensions, because they go deep into history, as Syria supported Indonesia’s independence in the late 1940s, while Indonesia supported Syria in its war against terrorism.
On her part Mrs. Radianti Fauzi the wife of the Indonesian ambassador said to Syria times ( E- news paper) that Indonesia is a country with approximately 17.000 Islands with 1300 ethnic groups, 700 languages, more 5.000 dances, 8
Thousands of traditional customs and thousands of different kinds of cuisines vary from island to island. Our national motto is “Bhineka Tunggal Ika” or in english “unity in diversity”.
“In our last night celebration of Indonesia’s Proclamation of Independence , we tried to present a small showcase of diversity and richness of Indonesian cultures through dances, traditional customs and clothes, and cuisine from several provinces in Indonesia From west to east of Indonesia” Mrs. Radianti said.
“The list of last night Dances:
- Asmaradana Dance from Bali Island;
- Lenggang Nyai Dance from Jakarta;
- Saman Dance from Aceh, part of Sumatera Island;
- Papua Dance from Papua Island;
- Pirang Dance, from West Sumatera Island;
- Maumere Dance, from Muamere, east Nusatenggara Island;
- Poco-Poco, from Menado, North Sulawesi.
We hope our guests can enjoy and taste the vibe of Indonesian Cultures and hospitality” she added.
“Also, The Indonesian embassy in cooperation with the Syrian Ministry of Culture will hold dance performances in Tartous on 28 September and Homs on 30 of September” Mrs. Fauzi said.
