Speaker of the People’s Assembly [Parliament], Hammouda Sabbagh, on Thursday described the relations between Syria and Iran as “deep and strong”.
His remarks came during a meeting with the Iranian Ambassador in Damascus, Javad Turk-Abadi .
Sabbagh underlined the need to strengthen the parliamentary ties between the Syrian People’s Assembly and the Iranian Shura Council in all fields, which serve the common interests of the two brotherly peoples, particularly in light of the unjust unilateral economic measures being imposed by the United States and its allies.
He, in addition, expressed the appreciation of the Syrian people for Iran’s support and its standing by Syria in its war against terrorism and aggression.
On his part, the Iranian diplomat affirmed that his country stands by Syria, which has been able to defeat terrorism and foil the conspiracies hatched against it.
He stressed the importance of the joint work to achieve the final victory over terrorism.
The ambassador referred to the need of developing economic relations between the two countries, affirming that Iran and Syria have a common interest in facing the conspiracies.
He handed over a letter to Sabbagh from the Speaker of the Iranian Islamic Shura Council, Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, concerning the relations between the two parliaments.
