Al-Moallem holds joint press conference with Borisov and Lavrov

DAMASCUS, (ST)_ Syria’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Walid al-Moallem has declared that the visiting Russian delegation’s meeting with President Bashar al-Assad was constructive and dealt with different political topics and developments in the region.

His remarks were made during a press conference held today with Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

Al-Moallem commented on a question about the next Syrian constitution, by saying that the coming constitution will the result of the discussions of the constitutional committee.

” The coming constitution will be the fruit of what the mini committee will have arrived at whether it be a completely new constitution or only a reformed one-and this constitution will be put to the vote thus ensuring that it is completely representative of the people,” he clarified.  

Al-Moallem stressed that discussions will continue about the constitution between members of the constitutional committee until an understanding is reached.”This has nothing to do with the presidential elections and they will take place as scheduled next year.”

On his part, Borisov said: “Russia and Syria are partners in all fields and we are exerting every possible effort to enhance the bilateral relations.” 

he added that Syria faces an economic siege and sanctions including what is called the “Caesar Act” as a result of the unconstructive stance of the US administration and its allies in Europe.We are working towards breaking this siege. 

The blueprint of the new agreement between Syria and Russia comprises more than 40 new projects in the field of reconstruction of the energy sector including a number of hydro electrical energy stations and extracting fuel from the sea,” Borisov  stated. 

Lavrov said that with Russia’s decisive support, Syria achieved victory over international terrorism and the external powers that support this terrorism and have strived to destroy Syria.

He affirmed that some countries and external powers try to implement their schemes and to suffocate the Syrian people through economic sanctions.

Lavrov pointed out that all documents and bilateral agreements resulting from the Astana track confirm the adherence of Russia and Turkey to the unity and safety of the Syrian land
