Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov arrives in Damascus for talks with senior Syrian officials

DAMASCUS, (ST)- Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov arrived in Damascus on Monday.

Lavrov, accompanied by Spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova, was welcomed at Damascus International Airport by Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Sousan, the Russian Ambassador to Syria Alexander Yefimov and a number of foreign ministry officials.

The Russian top diplomat is to hold talks with President Bashar Al-Assad and Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem.

Al-Moallem is to hold a press conference with Borisov and Lavrov at 4:00 p.m. today.

 Yesterday evening, an official Russian delegation, led by Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov, arrived in the Syrian Capital to hold talks with Syrian officials on ways of boosting cooperation in different domains, with the aim of completing the discussions of the Syrian-Russian Joint Committee for Trade, Economic, Technical and Scientific Cooperation, which held its 12th meeting in Moscow last December.

During the committee’s meeting, an agreement on custom cooperation was signed.
