Mini-constitutional committee for discussing the Syrian constitution concludes its meetings in Geneva
GENEVA, (ST)- Meetings of the third round of the mini-constitutional committee for discussing the Syrian constitution were concluded this evening at the UN Headquarters in Geneva.
The meetings were held with the participation of the national delegation as well as the other two delegations representing the Syrian civil society and the opposition.
A source close to the meetings said that the committee discussed an agenda titled “Main National Principles and that the national delegation proposed several national principles for agreement, most important of which, are the national identity and the cultural diversity as two key principles which can be built on at later stages of the committee’s work.
According to the source, a consensus on these two principles was blocked when other delegations submitted proposals that were irrelevant to these principles and had nothing to do with the current agenda of the meetings.
The source pointed out that the national delegation affirmed its keenness to continue working with openness in the coming rounds in order to reach a consensus on these two principles and on other national principles which constitute a common ground that helps the Constitutional Committee continue implementing its tasks.
Meetings of the third round of the Committee for discussing the Syrian constitution resumed activities on Thursday after being suspended by the United Nations over detecting Coronavirus infections among the delegates.
