The guarantor states of Astana peace talks condemn Israeli attacks on Syrian territories and American deal to steal Syrian oil

The guarantor states of the Astana process, “Russia, Iran and Turkey”, condemned the repeated Israeli attacks on the Syrian territories and the illegal deal between the United States and the “Qasad militia” to steal Syrian oil.

After their consultations in Geneva on Tuesday on the sidelines of the meeting of the  Constitution Discussion Committee,  the guarantor countries issued a joint statement stating that “the parties expressed their objection to the illegal confiscation of oil revenues and transfers that must go to Syria. They also condemned the illegal oil deal between an American licensed company and the illegal militia.”

“The ongoing Israeli attacks against Syria violate the principles of international law, affect the sovereignty of Syria, and threaten security and stability in the region,” the statement emphasized.

The statement also condemned the unilateral coercive economic measures against Syria, which were imposed in conjunction with the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic, announcing Syria’s intention to hold a new international meeting within the framework of the Astana platform as soon as possible.

The statement also renewed the commitment of the three countries to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria and their determination to “combat all forms of terrorism and confront separatist agendas that are detrimental to the integrity of the Syrian territories.”

The statement referred to an agreement to continue cooperation in order to achieve the complete elimination of terrorist organizations such as “ISIS”, “Al-Nusra Front”, “Al-Qaeda” and other groups associated with it, which the United Nations classify as terrorist.

In addition the statement also underlined the important role of the Constitution Discussion Committee in Geneva in continuing the political process that the Syrians hold and implement under the auspices of the United Nations and in accordance with Security Council Resolution 2254.  The committee must be guided in its work by “positive cooperation without external interference and imposing deadlines from outside with the aim of reaching general consensus among its members.

In a joint statement after their meeting in Moscow early last month, the heads of the guarantor states of the Astana process  reaffirmed their commitment to the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of Syria and the continuation of cooperation until the final elimination of terrorism, stressing their rejection of any separatist plans that violate Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
