“Jouri and Jasmine” exhibition celebrates Damascus heritage

The Arab Cultural Center in Abou Remmaneh hosted last Sunday a collective painting exhibition under the title “Jouri and Jasmine” (Damascene Rose and Jasmine) organized by Step Group and held annually under the supervision of plastic artist Osama Diab.

28 amateur and professional artists participated in the exhibition. They displayed more than 40 works that included oil and acrylic paintings as well as photographs. The paintings, with various sizes and artistic visions, depicted Damascus and its aesthetic details.

Artist Osama Diabcommented to Syria Times about this event saying: “The exhibition depicts heritage, archaeology, civilization and culture in Damascus such as the statue of Salah al-Din, the castle, the museums and other historical places.”

“The aim of holding this exhibition is to revive originality and the Syrian cultural heritage”, Diab said, indicating that the artists presented beautiful works that convey their message of love and beauty to the audience.

Artist Hanan Ibrahim participated with two paintings. The first embodies a licorice seller, while the second represents a door from an old Damascene house.  She said that the exhibition is an opportunity for artists to communicate with the audience and to develop their experience.

Another participant, artist Muhammad Khaddour, displayed two oil paintings. The first depicted the distinguished façade of the Umayyad Mosque, while the second embodied one of the doors of the Umayyad mosque.

The exhibition celebrated Damascus as one of the most important and beautiful cities in the world, a city with beautiful streets and old alleys that are always crowded.

Damascus is famous for Jasmine and the Damascene rose which have good reputation all over the world.
