Awqaf Ministry: Suspending Friday and massprayers in the governorates of Damascus and Damascus countryside for a period of 15 days as of tomorrow
The Ministry of Awqaf (Islamic Trusts) announced the suspension of Friday prayer and mass prayers in the mosques of the governorates of Damascus and Damascus countryside for a period of fifteen days, starting from tomorrow, Monday, 3 August, in accordance with the precautionary and preventive measures to address the Corona virus.
Head of the Awqaf Directorate of Damascus Countryside, Dr. Khader Shahrour, said in a statement to SANA reporter that the ministry took this step to prevent the spread of the Corona epidemic in the governorates of Damascus and its countryside, because these prayers are related to some social customs that may include crowding, pointing to the importance of citizens’ awareness of the need to adhere to preventive instructions and to the Islamic values in maintaining general health during epidemics.
On the 22nd of last month, the Ministry of Awqaf announced the suspension of the blessed Eid Al-Adha prayers in the governorates of Damascus and its countryside, and to take other measures to prevent the spread of the Corona virus. It also decided suspending all religious activities in all mosques of Damascus and Damascus countryside and the closure of the funeral and wedding halls affiliated to the Ministry until a further notice.
