Turkish regime to send oil and gas drilling ship to Cyprus economic zone

ANKARA, (ST)- As part of the Turkish regime’s continuous provocations against neighboring countries, Turkey announced on Wednesday that it will drill for oil and gas in sector 2 and 3 as well as in part of sector 13 of Cyprus economic zone in the Mediterranean.

In an official statement, the Turkish state oil company said that the exploration vessel “Barbaros Hayreddin” will head to the region and will stay there until the 20th of next September. It will be accompanied by one of the Turkish navy ships.

The decision came a day after Ibrahim Calin, Spokesman of the Turkish regime’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, announced the postponement of the mission of the exploration vessel “Org Raes” which was scheduled to carry out surveys and gas exploration in the economic zone that was agreed upon  with the Libyan National Accord government.

 The Turkish provocative decision to send the “Barbaros Hayreddin” ship to eastern Cyprus is expected to exacerbate tension between Turkey, and each of Greece, Cyprus and the European Union.
