China closes the US Consulate General at Chengdu in response to a similar action by the United States

Beijing, (ST) – The Chinese Foreign Ministry announced the closure of the US Consulate General at Chengdu this morning and took over the building in response to a similar action by the United States.

The Chinese news agency Xinhua quoted the ministry as saying in a statement on its website that China imposed control over the US consulate in Chengdu three days after the announcement of its closure.

Last Friday, China ordered the closure of the US consulate in Chengdu in response to the provocative action by the United States to close the Beijing consulate in Houston three days ago.
