Russian FM: PA’s elections are an important step on the path of development in Syria

Moscow (ST): The Russian Foreign Ministry affirmed that the People’s Assembly elections are an important stage on the path of the development process in the Syrian Arab Republic and an important step towards preserving and strengthening internal stability.  

In a statement released today, the Ministry said that it is in the interest of all Syrians to maintain the normal performance of the state establishments on the basis of the current legislation, reiterating Russia’s firm stand concerning the necessity of preserving Syria’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity and offering the required aid for the reconstruction process.

The statement added that Russia accords special importance to pressing ahead with the political process that will be led by the Syrians themselves without any foreign interference as provided for by UNSC resolution No. 2254.

Earlier, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Russian Communist Party Gynnady Zyganov stressed that the People’s Assembly elections represent a new victory for Syria and its people.
