Concluding a writing workshop held by “ Taa Mabsouta” Association, Nine Syrian female writers have signed their joint story collection entitled “ Lailaki Ghamek” (Dark Lilac) issued by the Syrian General Organization of Books at Mazzeh Cultural Center.
Head of “ Taa Mabsouta “ Association Diana Jabbour said in a statement to SANA “This step is the second in the framework of issuing publications for female members at the creative writing workshops that our society holds”,
She underlined that the writing workshop affirmed the association’s belief that culture, art and knowledge are the best means to achieve sustainable development in Syria.
Jabbor reiterated that any creative achievement that does not carry cultural and epistemological values will be temporary, because these values carry an opportunity for renewal and creativity and present an innovative achievement befitting the Syrians .
In turn, Dr. Thaer Zain Eddin , Director of the Syrian General Organization of Books said: “ this story collection is of great and remarkable importance as it reflects the reality , especially the suffering of the Syrians during the past years”.
On their part, the nine Syrian female authors expressed their happiness to participate in this workshop which was rich and distinctive in a literary way and in a personal way.
They stressed that this project is very important for talented women to exchange expertise , hoping that it will continue to gain more knowledge and skills in the art of writing stories.
The writer Khadra Khadra, who would have preferred to write the novel and was not interested in writing the short story before her participation in the workshop, discovered that the story is more appropriate to our time due to its possession of complete narrative elements and its intensification of the event.
According to Toqa Al-Bosh, a fourth year student at the College of Dentistry “My participation in the workshop came to develop my skills in the art of short stories, and with it I gained the improvement of vocabulary and the formulation of sentences in an academic manner” .
The participant in the workshop Rana Taha considered that the workshop was rich with information and useful to the participants by presenting creative writing techniques and modern methods of short story art with the ability to express imagination and ideas in a smooth and interesting way.
Melia Al-Hassan wrote “Dresses and curtains” story in the collection in which she monitored the reality that she has experienced during the past years, stressing that she was able, thanks to the workshop, to use her capabilities in a correct way within realistic lines of the story..
It is noteworthy that “Taa Mabsouta” is a non-profit association that aims to empower Syrian women and push them to the labor market by developing their creative capabilities as well as their artistic and cultural tools.
