Syrian parliamentary elections indicate normal political life in Syria, stress the Syrians’ determination to rebuild their country

MADRID, (ST)- Member of the European Parliament for Spain Manu Pineda has stressed that the parliamentary elections scheduled in Syria on Sunday are held in accordance with the constitution of the Syrian Arab Republic.

“The Syrian people have been facing a foreign-backed terrorist war as well as criminal western coercive measures and now, they are suffering from the Coronavirus pandemic, yet the West hasn’t understood what happened in Syria and hasn’t realized the legitimate Syrian state has triumphed in its war on terrorists and extremist mercenaries,” Pineda said in a statement on Friday.

He made it clear that the European Union has committed a grave mistake by conceding its independent decision and adopting the US hostile policy towards Syria.

He urged the EU to end its subordination to the United States and stop its interference policy based on imposing sanctions.

“The EU should instead support the Syrian people and respect the sovereignty of the Syrian state and the decision of the Syrian people,” he stressed.

On his part, Miguel Ankhel Postamanti, a former Spanish MP and the current Secretary of the Spanish Communist Party in Seville, said that the Syrian parliamentary elections are a positive sign proving normal political life in Syria and stressing the Syrians’ determination to rebuild the country after long years of war.

“These elections also indicate the Syrian people’s rejection of the  criminal coercive measures imposed on them by the United States and its allies, unfair measures that worsen the suffering of the Syrians.

Pablo Sapag, a Spanish researcher and a professor in the Complutense University of Madrid, affirmed that the elections are a very important and necessary step to confront the coercive measures imposed by the West on Syria.

“They are necessary for enhancing and supporting the reconstruction process in the country,” he said.

The Spanish political analyst Juan Antonio Agwelar said that holding the Syrian parliamentary elections is a clear evidence proving the strength and immunity of Syria as a sovereign state.

These elections are the best Syrian response to the terrorist war and the US sanctions, he asserted.
