GENEVA (ST)- The escalation in the use of drones in launching military aggression and practicing state terrorism by the United States, the Israeli occupation entity and the Turkish regime is the result of the Security Council silence and disability to deter these actions. These actions threaten international peace and security and violate the UN Charter and the rules of the international law, Syria’s Permanent Representative to the UN and other international organizations in Geneva Hussam Eddin Ala has confirmed.
During a session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva on Thursday, Ala said that the pretexts that these parties are promoting to justify their crimes, such as fighting terrorism or Article 51 of the UN Charter, are heresies that contradict the principles of respecting the sovereignty of states and the prohibition of the use of force in international relations. He warned against attempts to legalize these attacks.
He pointed out that the report of the Special Rapporteur on the ability of terrorist organizations, affiliated to Daesh and Jabhat al-Nusra, to have access to the drone technology and using it in Syria, proves the support these organizations are receiving.
He went on to say that the assassination by an American drone of the Commander of the Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, Major General Qassim Soleimani, who played a major role in combating terrorism, is a stark example of state terrorism that can’t only be described as merely an act of assassination or be justified under baseless legal pretext.
