A field day for preservation agriculture for wheat crop in Jableh

In cooperation between Lattakia Agriculture Directorate and in the presence of representatives of the organization (ACSAD) and UNDP , and a number of participating farmers, a field day was implemented on the project of preserving the wheat crop in Ras Al-Ain village in Jableh.

The field day was carried out on the land of farmer Ali Youssef, who explained that he cultivated his land with wheat in a traditional way. In the other part of the land, the conservation agriculture experiment was carried out, which provides the farmers financially and morally in terms of production, providing seeds, the price of tillage, in addition to maintaining soil moisture.

Eng. Ahmed Mohammad, head of the Department of Agriculture in Jableh, said: conservation agriculture in Jableh has been implemented in four extension units with different natural terrains, where it was applied in Al-Barjan and Al-ashrafieh, which are coastal areas in addition to the Ras Al-Ain plateau unit of low height, and Dweir ba’bda “Mountain unit“.

We found that the experiment was more successful in the low-altitude plateau areas, and he added: Today we are studying these results for this experiment after completing a training course for engineers on a mechanism, and following the different systems of conservation agriculture, and we will finally compare the traditional agriculture and conservation agriculture and note the results.

The importance of this project comes from the fact that it reduces soil erosion, whether from water or wind, in addition to that, by applying the conservation agriculture system, plant residues are preserved and the soil is not cultivated, which leads to an increase in the soil content of organic matter and increased water, thus ensuring crop productivity in the long term.
