Tehran, (ST) – Iran’s Senior Assistant to Foreign Minister in Special Political Affairs Ali-AsgharKhaji, condemned the American coercive measures against Syria, especially the so-called “Caesar Act“, affirming that it is illegal and inhumane.
Khaji said in a telephone conversation with United Nations Special Envoy for Syria Mr. Geir O. Pedersen that, “the new American embargo, known as the” Caesar Act “, comes in the context of pressuring the Syrian people and following up on Washington’s illegal goals, calling for the removal of the bans.
Khaji also noted that the new US sanctions have been imposed with the purpose of putting pressure on the Syrian people and pursuing the US’ illegitimate objectives by resorting to economic terrorism, stressing that such hostile measures could not undermine the Syrian people and their allies’ determination to continue support for that country’s people and legitimate government.
The two sides warned of the disturbing repercussions of the unilateral coercive measures imposed on the Syrian people, and stressed the necessity of delivering humanitarian aid to those who deserve it without politicizing and continuing the political process to solve the crisis in Syria.
The two sides also discussed the latest political and on-the-ground developments in Syria, and the upcoming virtual summit of the Astana Process guarantor states
