DAMASCUS, (ST)- The Ministry of Tourism and Wathiqat Watan have signed a Memorandum of Understanding within the framework of mutual cooperation to maintain the Syrian identity and heritage.
Following the signing ceremony, the Minister of Tourism ,Mohammad Radwan Martini hailed the role being played by Wathiqat Watan organization in documenting the events of the war on Syria, noting the cultural war targeting Syria and stressing the role of institutions and partnerships in confronting this war.
“We are keen on documenting the oral heritage and we are working with our partners for one goal: to preserve the essence and the production of the Syrian civilization,” said the minister.
Dr. Bouthaina Shaaban, the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of Wathiqat Watan, stressed the importance of mobilizing all capabilities to join efforts between institutions in order to protect, document and preserve the Syrian heritage, which has been subjected to a systematic campaign of destruction and distortion.
She affirmed that the organization aims to preserve the national identity through documenting the Syrian memory in projects such as documenting Syrian handicrafts, Sufi and ecclesiastical heritage, Syrian cuisine, etc.
She added that Wathiqat Watan’s national work completes the sacrifices of the martyrs and heroes of the Syrian Arab army.
