A meeting of the guarantor states for the Astana process on Syria will be held soon says Iranian Foreign Ministry
Tehran, (ST) – The Iranian Foreign Ministry announced that a meeting of the three guarantor countries for the Astana process on resolving the crisis in Syria will be held soon.
Ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi said during a press conference today that a meeting of guarantor countries “Iran, Russia and Turkey” will be held soon via video conference technology on Syria and will be scheduled during the visit of Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif to Ankara and Moscow.
The Astana meetings began in the Kazakh capital in the beginning of 2017 and fourteen meetings were held, one of which was in the Russian city of Sochi and affirmed in its entirety the firm commitment to preserve the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Syria and to continue the war on terrorist organizations there until its final defeat.
On the other hand, Mousavi renewed his country’s call to European countries not to remain silent in the face of American arrogance, expressing hope that the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency would not surrender to American and Israeli pressure.
Mousavi pointed out that the latest report published by the International Atomic Energy Agency regarding Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities takes into consideration American positions, calling on the agency to stand neutral and that its reports on Iran should not be affected by the Zionist entity’s allegations, stressing that his country would take a position if the agency issued any non-constructive report.
Mousavi stressed the need for Washington to stop its economic terrorism and return to the nuclear agreement signed with his country, which calls for an end to the arms embargo on Iran.
In another context, Mousavi explained that the report of the General Secretariat of United Nations on the use of Iranian weapons targeting Saudi Aramco facilities is just allegations and lacks any documents.
