Cuba, the Netherlands reject Israeli occupation’s plan to annex West Bank areas

The governments of Cuba and the Netherlands have expressed their rejection of the Israeli occupation plan to annex parts of the occupied West Bank, stressing that the plan blatantly violates the international law and resolutions.

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez said in a tweet on Saturday that the Israeli plan threatens the future of the state of Palestine and it flagrantly violates international laws and human rights.

Rodríguez reaffirmed his country’s firm support for the Palestinian people and its commitment to the Palestinian cause.

In the same context, Stef Blok, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, and Sigrid Kaag, the Dutch Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation, reiterated their country’s rejection of the illegal Israeli settlements, describing the Israeli plan to annex West Bank areas as an obstacle to achieving peace and finding a solution to the Palestinian cause.

The two ministers stressed that an Israeli annexation will be a breach of international law, and that accepting it will be “a dangerous precedent”.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced his government’s scheme to implement a settlement building plan that includes capturing more than half of the West Bank area, building thousands of settlement units in the Jordan Valley and restricting the Palestinian presence in small areas with the purpose of undermining the Palestinians’ hope for establishing an independent and geographically connected Palestinian state.
