Six new infections with COVID-19 reported in Ras al-Ma’arra in Damascus Countryside..three cases have recovered

DAMASCUS, (ST)-The Health Ministry announced on Saturday that six new coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Ras al-Ma’arra town in Damascus Countryside raising the total number of infections in Syria to 170.

According to the ministry, the new cases resulted from close contact with infected persons.

The ministry also said that three COVID-19 patients have recovered, raising the number of recoveries to 71.

The Health Ministry clartified that among the announced three recoveries was the truck driver from Ras al-Ma’arra who has left the isolation center in al-Zabadani Hospital after he recovered and tested negative for coronavirus twice.

The ministry also said that one of the six new coronavirus cases that were confirmed today is a resident in Kashkoul neighborhood in Damascus. The patient had contact with an infected person from Ras al-Ma’arra.

Detection teams are sparing no effort to identify the people who had contact with this person, to conduct necessary medical tests and to take other precautionary measures, according to the ministry.

The town of Ras al-Ma’arra was quarantined on June 7 after 16 infections with COVID-19 were reported there as a result of close contact with an infected truck driver working on Syria-Jordan highway. The quarantine aimed at controlling the spread of the deadly virus to other areas and at maintaining public health.

The first coronavirus case was confirmed in Syria on March 22. The patient was a person who came from abroad, while the first death was reported on March 29.
